Brown algae, known as Sargassum, are piling up on the beach in Tulum. This is a result of overfertilization, rainforest destruction, and rising water temperatures. The stuff, which stinks like rotten eggs, keeps us from swimming in the ocean. The only alternative is the hotel swimming pool.
